From a parent:
It is exceedingly hard to find teachers who sincerely care about the students they teach and who know how to relate to not only white children but non-white children and are not afraid of them or put them in a stereotype slot without even knowing their background.
You teach children how to be proud of their culture, to be proud of who they are, to be proud of the great diversity that we have in this country. I love it! You take great pains in making sure the children understand. It was clear in the speech that you made to the sixth-grade students and parents.
I know my daughter will take what you have taught her and use it throughout her life. I will make sure she does. You have made a great positive impact on her life as well as mine. Good teachers are hard to find. You are one of them. Do not change, EVER!
From a former student:
I still and always will thank you for helping me achieve all my goals and dreams. You have been, still are, and always will be my favorite teacher. I am not the only one that feels this way. You touched many people’s lives and gave many of them, including me, the strength to do what we dream and to never let go of that dream until you achieve it.
Unlike many people in the world today who only care about money, you care about the future of America by teaching students like me to make a difference in the world and by rocking the boat just a little.
The way that you teach has always been original. You never just stuck to the program. To be able to learn in your class was not an exotic and unreachable skill to possess because you make it so easy to absorb the knowledge. Even the most shy and disconnected person would raise their hand high and share their ideas with the class. That’s what it all boils down to. You help kids help themselves and that isn’t a characteristic that you can learn; it’s a characteristic that you are born with and that you are blessed with.
From a principal:
Mitchell did a staff development meeting at SC this afternoon on the math GLE’s (Grade Level Expectations). He did a very nice job with his positive comments and easy manner. He was able to explain so much of this document that it will now be useful to the staff.
